Welcome to Windy Knoll Shepherds-we are the Moores. Our family has been breeding, raising, and training AKC dogs for 12+ years.With extensive rural property, various livestock, and multiple kennels, we value the protection and loyalty of our East German Shepherds. We recognize that personal protection and K9 capability are noteworthy and necessary in a true working line dog. Our DDR German Shepherds are exceptional protection dogs with elite bloodlines.

DDR German Shepherds (East German working line dogs) descend from a very specific background. They were developed and bred in the East German Republic during the Cold War for security and protection purposes. Due to high standards and selective breeding, a pure focused bloodline was maintained. These shepherds possess highly sought-after traits. They are incredibly athletic with remarkable agility and stamina. Keenly intelligent, they excel as trackers and are adept at nose work. High energy and intense, these dogs exhibit dedication and phenomenal work ethic.

Physically, East German Shepherds are more muscular than other shepherds with large bones and straighter backs. Additionally, their heads are typically blockier and chests broader than other lines. They have long weatherproof double coats and are commonly sable (dark brown) or black. Average lifespans range from 9-13 years; adult males can be from 68-80 lbs while females may be 48-70 lbs at maturity. 

Captain, our primary two year old male stud, is alert, inquisitive, and driven. He is task-oriented but quite personable. Son of Irak vom schwarzen Bär and Ferguson K9’s Texas, Captain retains a distinguished pedigree. His sire consistently achieved high scores in obedience/protection (IPO/IGP Level 3) and tracking dog (FH Level 2) trials. Captain’s dam, Texas, also ranks extremely well with her family pedigree including TKN (Trick Dog titles) and BCAT (Ability Coursing Test-speed and agility) competition scores. Captain’s hip test results returned excellent.

Scout, our young female, also has a fine pedigree. Her sire, Joyful Acres Chief Justice, and dam, Olive vom haus Schair, carry worthwhile bloodlines. Her grandfather, Cliff von Schlossee, achieved high scores in European shows and trials and a coveted grade of KKl-1a (recommended for breeding).
